When vision doesn’t match reality – the cost of misaligned expectations

In almost every business I work with, big or small, there’s one pattern that shows up time and time again: misaligned expectations.

A founder or leader has a powerful vision. They know where they want the business to go and how they want the team to show up. But somehow, what they imagine and what plays out in reality, don’t quite match.

Why?

Because there’s often an unspoken assumption that:
  1. Everyone wants what I want.
  2. Everyone thinks and acts the way I do.
  3. If I talk about the vision, that should be enough.
But here’s the thing: what you want only becomes powerful when it’s connected to what they need.

The answer? Clarity.

Clarity is the key to resetting expectations and re-aligning your team with your vision. If your culture isn’t reflecting your values or your team aren’t showing up the way you hoped—they’re not failing you. You might just need to press pause and reset.

Come back to core principles:
  • What do you actually want this business to be
  • How do you want your team to show up?
  • And how can you create alignment between your vision and their
    experience?

Leadership isn’t about everyone thinking the same way; it’s about
bringing people on the journey with you.
